I felt absolutely honored, and incredibly grateful, when I was asked to play lead guitar for the very first high school run of Rock of Ages in the whole nation! The performances took place at Pinelands Regional High School in southern New Jersey earlier this month. What a blast…and what a workout! Seven straight days of nothin’ but rockin’ rehearsals and shows full of shredding! It took me well over a week to recover, which explains the timing of this post. It was a true privilege to play next to Stephen Strouse on the keyboards, Sean Conlon on rhythm guitar, Don Wittenwiler on the bass, and Brian Majoros on the drums – all very talented. Every student acted and sang phenomenally, thanks to the direction of Chuck Miller. Chuck did an awesome job acquiring all of the professional stage props and equipment that was needed to provide his students with the kind of setup they deserved. Everything from smoke machines and strobe lights to an incredibly efficient sound system was put to great use. Die hard fans, who claim to have seen EVERY performance, came from far and wide to see this special show. Wailing the iconic guitar solo from Don’t Stop Believin’ at front and center stage during the finale – in front of one of the largest audiences I ever had the privilege to play for – was an experience that I will never forget. Kudos to Pinelands Regional!
