Chris Neptune is one of the tri-state area’s most extraordinary alternative musicians on the rise, because he is not just a musician. He is a philosopher, teacher, writer, activist, and artist. A proponent of freedom, autonomy, love, indiviualism, humanism, existentialism, transcendentalism, nonviolence, and freethought, Neptune incorporates these concepts into his music, art, and writings. While Neptune likes to produce catchy songs that anyone can easily enjoy, he prefers to create music that requires critical thinking, with the hope of inspiring and empowering people to explore themselves internally, and thereby elicit external change in the world. He draws inspiration from many artists and bands, including but not limited to Peter Gabriel, Seal, Alan Parsons, Toto, Mr. Mister, and Rush.
Neptune was born and raised in West Orange, NJ, in a home that fostered music. Neptune’s parents were both music educators at some point in their careers. They used their expertise and experience to teach Neptune most of what he knows about good musicianship and practice habits. As a child, Neptune would watch his sister in awe as she dabbled with sound production in their attic. Inspired, Neptune sought to try his hand at recording his own compositions. He started by producing simple MIDI files, and then eventually worked his way up to professional audio recording, all while jamming with his high school buddies in an amateur punk rock/ska band and showcasing some classical and jazz pieces with large ensembles from the schools he attended.
By 2012, after going through two other stage names and albums as he was exploring his sound and honing his skills, Neptune released his first official EP, titled “Chance for a New Beginning,” under the stage name, “Chris Neptune.” With the help of his colleague, Gene Morriello (former bassist of Starzend and founder of Face the Sun), Neptune formed a professional backing band. Ever since Morriello had to leave the band for personal reasons, various musicians have been supporting Chris in his current efforts.  After releasing two more EP’s, and thereby completing what he calls, “Series One,” Neptune stepped back into the studio to record his latest EP, “Lattitude,” which was released on November 30th, 2016.  Most recently, Chris Neptune released his very first full-length album, “Schoolyard Sidewalk Chalkdust Daydreams.”
